It depends on the job. Many corporate taxi companies run training programs that pay for you to obtain a standard Class 2 license after joining. Filter by "company-paid license training" to find jobs you can apply to before getting the license. Always check each posting's requirements.

Carrying passengers for hire in Japan requires a Class 2 driver's license, which comes in standard, medium and large categories. Taxi, chauffeur, care taxi and sightseeing taxi work needs a standard Class 2; medium and large Class 2 licenses are for buses and are outside the scope of this site. It depends on the company. Many corporate taxi companies pay for license training after you join, usually on condition that you stay for a set period. Check the conditions and period in the posting or at interview.

Taking the Class 2 license test requires meeting age and license-holding-period conditions set by law, which are revised from time to time. Please check the latest requirements with your prefectural driver's license center or police website.

Care taxi and welfare transport driving requires a standard Class 2 license. Because drivers assist passengers getting in and out, many postings also ask for a care qualification such as the Certified Care Worker Entry Training. Some companies support obtaining it, so check each posting's requirements.

A shift pattern widely used in the taxi industry: each shift is long, and the day after a shift is a rest day. The number of shifts per month is fixed, which makes it easier to take blocks of time off, while each shift is long. Some companies offer day-only or night-only shifts, so you can filter by "alternate-day shift" or "day shifts only".

A scheme that guarantees a fixed amount of pay for a set period after joining, regardless of fares earned. In the taxi industry, where commission makes up a large share of pay, it stabilizes income while new drivers get up to speed. Amount, period and conditions vary by company, so always check the posting.

The taxi industry employs a wide age range. There are postings that welcome drivers in their 60s and seniors, and postings where beginners obtain a Class 2 license through company training before starting.
